Evernote doesn't do enough to warrant the price for MY needs. I've never found Evernote to be worth the price because they have competitors who offer similar products for free. It's up to the individual to determine if the price is worth it. With software, pay per use would be a bit extreme (3 cents per note? 5 cents per noted converted to email?) so instead, you pay a subscription to access their services.
